Chaotic Card of the Week-February 4

This week's card is Supercooled Rain:

For five build points, Supercooled Rain is a really costly attack, but for dealing 40 damage, and making your opponent lose 4 mugic counters, some players think it is worth the cost. Playing this attack early on will effectively shut down a few of your opponent's mugic cards for the rest of the match. Many decks rely on have an exact number of mugic counters to play their cards, and usually don't have to many mugic counters to pay for anything else.

There is no doubt that Supercooled Rain is good, it is just a matter of whether or not if it is worth the price of 5 build points.

Stump Occasus, win a prize!

I think it is time for a little bit of a contest. Here is how it will work: you guys will send me questions on how cards will work in a certain situation, and I will tell you what I think is suppose to happen. I will then check with some people who REALLY know what should happen, and for every one I get wrong, I will give the asker of the question a prize. The first five people to leave comments on this topic, which includes their username and a question, will be entered into the contest.

So get thinking! :)

Chaotic Card of the Week-January 7

This week's card is Skeletal Springs :).

This card is a really nifty and interesting counter to the Fluidmorphing decks out there. It's interesting because it powers up water attacks, but it also shuts down an ability that is centered around water. It's nifty because it it one of the only cards that powers up attacks of a certain element without lowering the damage from another elemental type attack. So if you are running a deck that uses both water and earth attacks, you wouldn't play Everrain, but Skeletal Springs would be a much better choice.

This card is a bit of a double edge sword though. Skeltal Springs gives any creature with the Water element Water 5, without lowering the damage of other attacks that your opponent might have. So if your opponent has the water element as well, both of you will both be on equal ground.

Rate out of 10 :).

Chaotic Card of the Week-January 2

Happy new year to all of you! Holidays usually mess with my calendar, so I forgot about the CCTW, but I'll fill you guys in right now!

This week I chose Phobia Plates

I have been looking at Phobia Plates for some time now, and it is an interesting piece of battlegear. This card defeats decks like my Clodor deck by shutting them off at their source: challenges. A number of decks use challanges right now like stat drain decks, or even most other decks use at least a few attacks with challenges.

Its second ability is a little more deck specific. You will mostly see damage dealing mugic in underworld deck, but more and more generic mugic, and mugic in other tribes are getting in on the action. Cards like Casters' Warsong, Psionic Serenade, and Prelude to Dominance are seeing more play now-a-days, and this card give your creatures a good defense against them.

What do you guys think about this card? Rate out of 10 :).

Double Trouble?

I think a few people already posted about this over at the main forums, but I want to compare the "twin" sisters from the new set, Aivenna and Nivenna.

First off, you can see that the two names are only on letter off, the color of their skin switches with the color of their hair, their poses are mirror versions of each other, and both feature a famous creature from a the base set in the background, but how else are they similar?

One is the classic fighter: high energy, and something to power its attacks, and the other is the classic support creature: low energy, large amount of mugic counters and a mugic ability.

Nivenna has pretty high wisdom, not too many underworlders have as high of an intellengence. That is pretty overworld-y of her. Not to mention the fact that her ability powers up your creatures instead of hurting your opponent's. That is also pretty uncharacteristical for an underworlder.

There are a few other obvious similarities with the creatures. They have the same power and wisdom. Aivenna as two forms of Outperform 5, while Nivenna gives creatures you control an element 10 of your choice, which is sort of like having two element 5's. Then there is the mugical difference. Nivenna has 3 counters, which is the largest amount a creature has been given so far, and Aivenna has the lowest amount of mugic counters.

Their abilities reflect off of each other as well. Nivenna powers up all of your warriors, and Aivenna's support ability only works if you have a muge. Doesn't that seem weird? These two creatures seem to be made to be put in the same army, but because of their Loyalty, they aren't able to. It is possible that they are hinting at a possible way to bypass Loyalty in the future, or they might just be messing with us. Who knows?

These creatures seem to work in opposite directions, but also seem to want to work together. Any thoughts?

Card of the Week December 10

This week's card is Nimmei!

Courage: 75
Power: 45
Wisdom: 35
Speed: 50
Energy: 50

I know there is a whole new set of potential Cards of the Week, but you just can't say no to a good bug :P. Nimmei is a huge win for the danian fans out there. If played right, your Nimmei can have more than 100 energy and his stats can be put through the roof!

I have only played against a Nimmei based deck a few times where the player maxes out on infected creatures and mandiblores, and I can tell you that Nimmei is one tough creature! I think that a Nimmei deck built right can be just as competitive as a Bladez deck or Invisibility Strike deck.

Nimmei's high energy and high stats makes him strong against regular decks, but also against the M'arrillian drain decks which have been popping up lately. So he is definately a card any danian player should think about putting in!

Deck Updating: Elemental Twister

Before I get into this, I want to say that the name is really false advertising. This deck, although is still an overworld deck, has nothing to do with Elemental Twister, or Elementalists.

1 2 3
4 5
6

1. Gronmor/Viledriver
2. Gronmor/Viledriver
3. Tangath Toborn, In Training/Torrent Krinth
4. Tartarek, Psi Overloader/Destructozooka
5. Karraba/Challor
6. Karraba/Challor

Attacks:
2x Steam Rage
1x Torrent of Flame
2x Incinerase
2x Purifying Mud
1x Liquescent Swirl
2x Elemental Oxidation
2x Reckless Defeat
2x Ember Swarm
2x Heat Rage
2x Perplexing Heat
2x Outwit

Locations:
2x The Darkened Dunes
2x Mipedim Mirage
2x Riverlands
2x Mount Pillar Reservoir Neth'uar's Foothold
1x Imaginary Walls
1x Kiru City

Mugic:
1x Strain of the Tide
2x Rhyme of the Reckless
1x Song of Resurgence
1x Nourishing Nocturne
1x Psionic Serenade

Gronmor is your best creature. He is a better version of all of your fighting creatures. Tartarek probably won't be fighting much at all. He is the creature that you will be sacrificing to Nourishing Nocturne, and depending on his energy, you might also use Psionic Serenade with him. Remember that these mugics shouldn't be used to win battles that you could win with one of your creatures.

Remember that you have two Karabas. You need to make sure that you use their healing ability before you use them to cast mugic with them. If you cast mugic first, their healing ability won't be as effective. Use the counters on Tangath first. The counters on Tartarek will be used for the Nourishing Nocturne, and remember to keep two mugic counters on one of the Karrabas to play a Psionic Screnade.

Card of the Week December 3

Today we are welcoming in the latest set, with several surprises. Some creatures we used to know back in the good old days of Dawn of Perim are back, albeit, most are evil brainwashed minions, but they are back none the less!

This week's card is H'earring, Tainted.

What happened to H'earring?! He used to be this cute little guy, and now...I can't look at him anymore! At least he came back with a fun new ability. This new H'earing effectively stops your opponent from stacking his or her hand with one or more strong attack cards. You will be able to disable your opponent's Allmageddon before he can even play it, or stop your opponent from flipping your battlegear with an Elemental Oxidation.

I think H'earing is a pretty useful card. Rate him one out of ten :).

Recreating the Color Wheel 5: M'arrillians

I know this is long overdue, but I wanted to make sure I had enough to write about before I started this :).

We all know who the M'arrillians are fairly weak jelly fish-like creatures, except for their strong mental abilities. So it is obvious that they are strong in the Water element, and, on average, they have high wisdom.

Before, I said that no tribe is inherently "evil". Well now I take it back. Evil is something that is determined by the majority of a group. With each tribe, everyone has a different definition on what is evil. All of the tribes share the common enemy of the M'arrillians.

I don't feel that the M'arrillians want to accomplish an evil goal, but the way they want to solve their problems is in, as the tribes believe, a completely unacceptable way. M'arrillian chieftains (I specify chieftains because they have hinted towards more subtypes of M'arrillians other than the Fluidmorphers) literally take a creature, and forces them to obey no matter what. We don't know if they also wipe away the creature's memories, or if the creature is conscious and is aware of everything that the M'arrillians are forcing it to do.

There is one Minion that I really think should be pointed out, and that is Tartarek.

Read his ability, and tell me if you can notice something odd about him. When he is a pure Overworld creature, he has the stat gaining ability which is one of the Overworld trademarks. Then he has the ability to destroy Chieftains, which is a very power ability. Now here is the weird part: as a minion, but he keeps his ability to destroy Chieftains. While he is being controled by a M'arrillian, he retains his ability to destroy other M'arrillians.

Why would a brainwashed creature keep his abilities in the first place, much less an ability that is dangerous to the M'arrillians? No other creature can keep its regular abilities, except Tartarek. The only thing that is special about Tartarek compared to the other minions is his incredibly high wisdom and courage. I believe that it is linked to his wisdom. It is possible that he has enough mental power to resist the psionic abilities of the M'arrillians, in fact there isn't a single M'arrillian with more Wisdom than Tartarek.

I hoped that you enjoyed my final (?) installation of the Color Wheel

Card of the Week-10/29

Welcome again for another installment of my card of the week :).

This week's card is Plasmarrow :).

Some of you have seen my latest deck that I have been using in play is the Overworld Gronmor deck, and it really does work well. In most cases, it is one of the best decks to use right now, the only problem is that there are a few cards out there that literally destroy the deck. Plasmarrow is one of them.

With the new set, overworld has some real fighters now. No one can come up to you and say that Gronmor isn't a worth while creature to use. High energy, three elements, fire 5, how can't you love to use him? The problem is, Overworld's mugic and abilities focus on keeping him alive, which you really can't do when your healing is gone. So your mugic and abilities are gone, but your opponent's are still up and running. Just a bit of an unfair advantage, right?

Most of the new attacks (3 build points, 30 damage, and effect) are great attacks. If you have the space, go for one, you might not regret it :).

Chaotic Card of the Week-October 22

It might be a little on the late side, but I am doing this on time! As long as it is Wednesday, it's all good :).

When I first saw this card at San Diego, I did a double take. It was a "What were they thinking?!" moment :P. Think about it, Bladez is hard enough to defeat, and as soon as he is destroyed, you just loaded your opponent's weapon for him. This mugic is pretty much an auto kill for any creature once a creature like Bladez or Tartarek is in the discard pile. Not many creatures can take 65 points of damage and win the fight, let alone surviving it.

Minion cards are everywhere. Every common and uncommon creature from M'arrillian Invasion is a minion, and a large majority of the other creatures are minions too, and many different decks rely on them, not just M'arrillian based armies. This mugic can find a home in most decks that have one or two minion fighters in the army, and can afford the two casting cost.

I am going to try something new, I want you to rate this mugic on a scale from 1-10. 1 being the worst you've seen, and 10 being the best. Now get voting! :)

Chaor, Bloot, then who?

We all know that Lord Van Bloot and Chaor are dominating the meta game, but I need to ask you is who is the third wheel to this duo? Today, I am going to explore the strengths and weaknesses of these different strategies that you can use with these two creatures.

1. Barath Beyond:
He is a great creature, no one can say that he isn't. But is he strong enough, and does he fit in with these two creatures? To have both bloot and chaor in the same deck, you need to focus less on the fire element, and more on courage, power, and speed. Barath is stronger in an elemental based attack deck, which is a little out of place with chaor and bloot. You do have barath's high power and speed, but his courage is lacking, and his recklessness is a large drawback. All and all, he is an alright pick, but I think that there are some stronger choices.

2. Klasp
This creature has increased in popularity lately. Originally, a klasp with stone mail was the way to go. With Klasp's high stats and energy, and stone mail canceling out his recklessness, he was a formidable opponent. But now, Nexus Fuse has made klasp an even stronger pick in battle. Along with his own 10 damage sacrifice ability, nexus fuse adds another 15 damage to it. With 25 damage to deal, klasp may be able to take out a chaor, or a bloot, which will give you the chance to take the offensive in mirror match-ups. I would say that klasp is a very strong pick.

3. Ulmar
I noticed less and less people using ulmar lately. Having 20 damage that you can deal at any time may be the difference between beating bloot and chaor, and losing the match. But with this extra damage, comes a very risky situation. When you use ulmar in an army, you are pretty much only fighting with two creatures. Ulmar isn't a fighter, if he is engaged in battle, he will lose. Losing even one creature becomes a very big deal. I would say ulmar isn't a bad choice, but I think that there are more stable choices out there.
