New Poll

I would like to know what is the format of play that you guys usually play. It doesn't necessarily have to be your favorite format to play, just the one that you play the most.

For those of you who don't know, apprentice rules will be renamed journeyman rules in the near future.

The poll is completely anonymous, so vote the way that you feel, and if you want to share how you voted, please share and discuss here :).

Edit: Oh, and happy Halloween :).

I don't know about you, but I was ecstatic about the bug fix with the out perform bug. So I want to ask you guys, what bug do you think should be the staff's top priority?

Card of the Week-10/29

Welcome again for another installment of my card of the week :).

This week's card is Plasmarrow :).

Some of you have seen my latest deck that I have been using in play is the Overworld Gronmor deck, and it really does work well. In most cases, it is one of the best decks to use right now, the only problem is that there are a few cards out there that literally destroy the deck. Plasmarrow is one of them.

With the new set, overworld has some real fighters now. No one can come up to you and say that Gronmor isn't a worth while creature to use. High energy, three elements, fire 5, how can't you love to use him? The problem is, Overworld's mugic and abilities focus on keeping him alive, which you really can't do when your healing is gone. So your mugic and abilities are gone, but your opponent's are still up and running. Just a bit of an unfair advantage, right?

Most of the new attacks (3 build points, 30 damage, and effect) are great attacks. If you have the space, go for one, you might not regret it :).

What's Wrong?

I was just looking at the Week's Chaotic tips when I saw Antidaeon. But something is wrong with him. Can you tell me everything that is wrong with this picture?

Recreating The Color Wheel 4: Underworld

And just like that, it is time for the Underworld, our second to last tribe in my five part series :).

Underworlders are impulsive, destructive, emotional, and selfish. One thing that they aren't is evil. You can't get caught up in appearance and attitude, and think that is what causes someone to be either evil, or good. Every tribe has the capacity to both good, and do evil in the name for their cause. The Danians will assimilate creatures and make them follow their philosophies, some Mipedians are ruthless hunters (just look what happened in Castle Bohdran or Bust Part 2) and Overworlders have been destructive in the past with the Underworld and Slurk isn't that nice to the Mipedians either.

In the TV show, Chaor, the "ruthless" ruler of the Underworld, has saved Kaz's life multiple times, and even showed mercy to the treasonous Lord Van Bloot. The world "evil" cannot possible describe a tribe when the leader of it has shown kindness in the past.

Underworlders see themselves as the "good" force, and that they must do what they need to survive. They believe that you can only flourish when you aren't limited by rules and restrictions. The Overworlders are the opposite of this, they believe that without laws governing the people, chaos will emerge which will be the downfall of everyone. This is where the conflict between the Over and Underworld begins. Overworld wants to replace the Underworld with a civilization much like their own, and the Underworld wants to defeat the Overworld so they can live the way they want without rules or structure.

One way the Underworlders try to destroy rules and law is through causing destruction and problems. This can be found in damage dealing abilities, or stat lowering mugic, anything to throw their opponents off guard.

Underworlders get their power through emotion, even though it can cause them harm in the end run. With recklessness, Underworlders get amazing powers, but their haste ends up becomming a weakness, but Improvisational Melody shows how their impulsivness becomes an even greater strength. Song of Fury is probably one of the more famous examples of Underworder's emotional power.

Underworld's weakness in the elements is water.

So please comment, rate, criticize, or just a friendly hello :).

Recreating The Color Wheel 3: Mipedians

Ah Mipedians, Perim's very own lizard boys. Believe it or not, a generic mugic's flavor text describes Mipedians in the game. "Strike first, strike fast, strike hard, strike last," -Prelude to Dominance. Come on, how doesn't that sound exactly like the Mipedians?

The corner stone that Mipedians has been built on is invisibility. They get the jump on their opponents and try to finish them as fast as they can, much like an ambush. That is one reason why there is such a low amount of Mipedians with high energy. It is because they never had to rely on energy, because their battles are usually over so fast that it wouldn't matter how much energy they have.

Now how about some mugic staples of the Mipedians? Melody of Mirage, and Song of Shelter come to mind. If you think about it, overworld is good at solving problems, underworld is good at causing problems and Mipedians are good at preventing the problems from ever happening. Mipedians have some of the best defensive mugic there is, I know I always dread it when I see a Melody of Mirage being played on one of my attacks!

Now on to warbeasts! Warbeasts are a very odd thing to talk about, because they don't really fit into the Mipedian stereotype. They don't turn invisible, they are extremely strong, and they aren't very good standalone creatures. Blazvatan is a tank of a creature. It has extremely high energy, two stats that are over 140, two elements, and two element Xs. There isn't much stopping that except for going around it and destroying the conjurers, which again isn't very Mipedian-like. The only thing I have to say is that the warbeasts are pretty bad Mipedians flavor wise! They were created through pure mugic, so I guess you could say it is because of the Mipedians great skill at mugic, but other than that... :P

One other thing I want to touch on is the Mipedian's unique ability of sacrificing themselves to help out their comrades in battle. Tianne, Sobtjek and even the new Mipedian Alazdan all embody this. They would rather sacrifice themselves than see a friend be destroyed, so they believe in putting the needs of the group ahead of the needs of the one.

Mipedian's weakness seems to be with water, which makes sense seeing as they are desert dwellers.

So comment, rate, yell at me for missing something, anything works!

Chaotic Card of the Week-October 22

It might be a little on the late side, but I am doing this on time! As long as it is Wednesday, it's all good :).

When I first saw this card at San Diego, I did a double take. It was a "What were they thinking?!" moment :P. Think about it, Bladez is hard enough to defeat, and as soon as he is destroyed, you just loaded your opponent's weapon for him. This mugic is pretty much an auto kill for any creature once a creature like Bladez or Tartarek is in the discard pile. Not many creatures can take 65 points of damage and win the fight, let alone surviving it.

Minion cards are everywhere. Every common and uncommon creature from M'arrillian Invasion is a minion, and a large majority of the other creatures are minions too, and many different decks rely on them, not just M'arrillian based armies. This mugic can find a home in most decks that have one or two minion fighters in the army, and can afford the two casting cost.

I am going to try something new, I want you to rate this mugic on a scale from 1-10. 1 being the worst you've seen, and 10 being the best. Now get voting! :)

Recreating The Color Wheel 2: Danian

Danians are bug-like creatures, but their likeness with insects doesn't stop at their appearance. Creatures like Nimmei, Odu-Bathax and Wamma rely on the number of Mandiblors to power themselves up. Thing of it like a swarm of bees. One won't do much damage, only a little sting, but if enough get together, they can be life threatening! The work together to make several weaker creatures become one serious threat! If it wasn't for other Mandiblores, Nimmei wouldn't be as strong of a creature as he is. Most creautres wouldn't have much trouble taking him down, but thanks to his ability, he is one of the strongest danians out there.

Then there is infection, danian's secret little weapon that isn't so secret any more. Why bother fight an enemy when you can have him fight for you? Danians use their infection ability to make enemy creatures power their insect forces up!

Then there is the parasitic nature of some of them. They can draw on the energy of other creatures, like in Song of Symmetry, or sometimes even off of themselves like in Strain of Infection.

Danians are strong in all of the elements, but they aren't as focused on Fire.

Please comment, criticize, or whatever you'd like :).

Recreating The Color Wheel 1: Overworld

I have got a lot of PMs and posts in my old topic asking for me to update it for M'arrillian Invasion. So I am going to start posting updated sections for each tribe.

Even after the latest set, the two biggest characteristics of the Overworld tribe is their support ability and healing. You will rarely see any offensive card from this tribe. They rather strengthen themselves to win rather than try to undermine their opponents with stat reduction or damage dealing effects. With M'arrillian Invasion, a greater theme of stats has emerged in the tribes, and of course Overworld is full of stat increasing mugic and abilities.

Overworlders are problem solvers. They don't have much in terms of prevention, but they can easily remedy problems that come up. If someone is hurt, they heal them, if someone loses their stats, they increase them, or in Tangath Toborn's case, he just undos the effect of stat reduction.

One thing I am noticing with latest set is that each tribe is skilled in almost all of the elements except for one, instead of being skilled in one or two like I posted in the original article. Overworlders have a weakness with the Air element.

Please comment, criticize, or just a friendly hello :).

Chaotic Card of the Week-October 15

This week's card is Bladez :).

Courage: 80
Power: 90
Wisdom: 35
Speed: 30
Energy: 60

Show me a player who thinks that Bladez is a bad card, and I will show you one sorry chaotic player! Everything about Bladez is purely amazing. Two elements, as much energy as Maxxor, and one (well two, but only one can be used :P) awesome abilities.

Most people already found the Husk Armor combo, and good for them :). Those two cards work excellent together, making up for one weakness and turning it into a strength.

Some Notes:
Here is a warning to anyone who wants to use this deck. There is a bug with the Aspect Amplifiers and Outperform. If Clodor would attack with a Mind Strike, it will deal 30 (15 from the checks, plus 15 from outperform). The is not how it is suppose to work. Outperform should only add 5 damage to the attack, not 15 (the game gives it +5 for each check instead of only +5 for the attack as a whole). So I better not catching anyone using this deck with the bugged cards ;).

Please post your comments, criticism or even a friendly hello :).

Deck Updating

I was very surprised when I saw that my Clodor deck was chosen to be the first deck that I would update. For those of you who want to see my updates to the other decks, don't worry I will still post them, but now I have an oder in which to work on them :). Yay for Clodor!

I have also been thinking about doing a deck clinic article, where users would email me their deck list and ask how I would go about improving it. Post any ideas, feelings or opinions here :).

Chaotic Card of the Week-October 8

This week's card is Owayki :).

I am sure that some of my loyal fans will have seen this one coming. Owayki was one of the previews I posted from Gen Con for you guys. Now back to the card.

Courage: 40
Power: 50
Wisdom: 45
Speed: 85
Energy: 60

I hope someone just did a double take on Owayki's stats. Elemental X is a very powerful tool (just look at Barath Beyond) and Owayki has the same energy as Barath, but without the nasty recklessness that is Barath's biggest fault. Owayki has more than enough speed to fully use Progressive Speed. Even as a stand alone creature, Owayki is very strong.

His brings him to another level. He is a strictly better Marquis Darini. Even though Marquis never saw too much play, he wasn't supported with as good of stats and abilities as Owayki and the added mugic counter makes things even better :).

Chaotic Card of the Week-October 1

This week doesn't have one card, I am going to devote this week to an entire cycle of cards :).

These are beautiful cards. They are just absolutely beautiful. Before the metagame only could have decks with element X cards. They were quick, powerful and well supported. So unless you ran a deck that was focused on elements, you probably couldn't do as well as the underworld decks out there.

Now there are more opportunities. I have recently updated my Clodor deck with the new cards, and it is sweet ;). It beat an underworld deck with a chaor :). I might be posting some of my older decks that have been updated for the new set. Tell me if you guys would like that, and if so, which decks you want to see first :).

To avoid any confusion, here are the other ones :).
